The "China Studies Program" (CSP) Ph.D. Fellowships were established by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation and is committed to providing opportunities and support to overseas young scholars and doctoral programs for studying in China. The program includes the Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship and the Ph.D. in China Fellowship. ECNU is one of the universities which could accept "China Studies Program" (CSP) Ph.D. Fellowships students.

Ph.D. in China Fellowship

1. Purpose

This program supports overseas outstanding master's degree holders in pursuing doctoral degrees at Chinese universities. 

2. Duration: 4 year

3. Eligibility

• Non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport.

• Ph.D program applicants should have a Master's degree or an equivalent degree to a Master's degree (or above) in China.

• HSK Level 5 over 210 or HSK Level 6 over 180 is required, and priority is given to applicants with higher level of proficiency in Chinese under same conditions.

4. Application materials

• Notarized transcripts of undergraduate and master's studies, degree certificates and a Chinese translation for each

• Recommendation letters in Chinese or English from two experts in the field, including professors or associate professors

The issue date of the recommendation letter should be later than September 1st, 2022. 

Recommendation letter MUST include: the designation, working place, contact telephone, email and the signature of the recommender.

• HSK transcript (HSK Level 5 over 210 or HSK Level 6 over 180)

• Doctoral study plan.

• Catalogue and abstract of published papers, or other documents that proves academic ability; the abstract of your Master degree thesis instead of the full text.

• Photocopy of Passport (Include personal information page and Chinese visa pages if you have been in China)

• Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form within 6 months

• Non-criminal certificate (notarized photocopy in Chinese or in English)

Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship

1. Purpose

This program funds overseas outstanding doctoral students registered in foreign universities coming to China for study, research and writing of their doctoral dissertations

2. Duration

From six months to two years.

3. Eligibility

• Non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport

• For Chinese-taught programs: HSK Level 5

   For English-taught programs: effective English Language Certificate and HSK test over level 3 are required, and priority is given to applicants with higher level of proficiency in Chinese under same conditions

• Ph.D students (candidates) who registered at foreign University currently 

4. Application materials

• Ph.D. Study Certificate

• Transcripts

• Recommendation letters in Chinese or English from two experts in your field of study, including professors or associate professors
