Recently, the Global Education Center successfully hosted the "ECNU TALK" Chinese Corner event. Over 20 students from Russia, Japan, Indonesia, France, Australia, South Korea, Mali, Thailand, Vietnam, and China participated in this lively debate.

The first debaters from each side explained the meanings of "better to be a chicken head than a phoenix tail" and "better to be a phoenix tail than a chicken head," outlining their core arguments through brief comparative analysis. The second debaters discussed the advantages of being a "chicken head" versus a "phoenix tail" in detail, while the third debaters raised challenges to the opposing viewpoints. During this time, debaters shared personal stories that made their arguments more persuasive. They skillfully identified weaknesses in their opponents' arguments and responded thoughtfully and cleverly. Observers also joined in, offering new perspectives and elevating the debate to a climax. Students were divided into three groups to discuss their own or others' choices between being a "chicken head" or a "phoenix tail." They shared their experiences from the debate and discussed whether they might view such decisions differently in the future. The teachers provided feedback on the event and awarded the best debater and best observer based on student votes.

In this debate, there were no winners or losers, and no right or wrong viewpoints. Students freely expressed their opinions, enhancing their language skills and forming valuable friendships. The ECNU TALK Chinese Corner offers students opportunities for exchange, brainstorming, and improving their spoken Chinese. We hope more students will join us next time!
