Program Duration:
September 14th, 2026 - January 15th, 2027 (the first week is orientation week and classes start from September 21st, 2026).
*18 weeks in total (the orientation week included). In case of Chinese public holidays and school activities, classes will be suspended.
*On August 12th, 2026, the school will email students to complete a Chinese proficiency survey questionnaire for the purpose of arranging online placement exams. Please ensure that student email addresses are accurate and valid.

Class Schedule:
Beginner I (absolute beginners): Monday to Friday 13:30 pm-15:00 pm, 15:15 pm-16:45 pm, 4 class hours each session (45min=1 class hour), 20 class hours per week.
Beginner II & Non-beginner levels: Monday to Friday 8:30 am-10:00 am, 10:15 am-11:45 am, 4 class hours each session (45min=1 class hour), 20 class hours per week.

Fees:
Application fee 800 RMB; tuition fee 9800 RMB/semester.
Textbooks:
40 Lessons for Basic Chinese, Developing Chinese, Advanced Chinese News Reading Course, China Focus, etc. Teachers will provide a list of textbooks at the beginning of the semester, and students may purchase textbooks based on the list for their classes.
Small Class: No more than 25 persons per class.
Various Courses: ECNU outstanding Chinese teaching team, face to face to improve students’ Chinese language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Graded Course: 12 grades of course provided which exactly match students’ Chinese proficiency levels.
Enriched Program: HSK Test Preparation, Chinese Pronunciation Correction and other elective courses are offered (free of charge, limited places available).
Field Trip: Organized once a semester, and students may voluntarily sign up to enjoy the natural and humanistic landscapes and learn about Chinese society and culture (the Field Trip is optional with addtional cost, ECNU pays part of the fees).
Auxiliary Resources: Free VIP accounts for Chinese learning application.
Completion Certificate: All students receive a transcript at the end of the semester and a certificate of completion for those who meet the completion requirements.

Refund Rules
A full refund is available for those who give up enrollment and complete the withdrawal procedures and visa cancellation procedures before the semester start date (by September 14th, 2026, inclusive); 70% refund for those who complete the withdrawal procedures and visa cancellation procedures within the first two weeks after the semester start date (by September 28th, 2026, inclusive); no refund afterwards.
Please note: To ensure the proper functioning of the program, students who have paid their tuition fees will not be permitted to transfer to another Chinese language program during their first semester.
ECNU will provide visa application documents for students of Chinese Language Programs based on study duration.
The first round of accommodation bookings for new students is expected to open in early July 2026. Students are required to pay their tuition fees in advance to be eligible to book accommodation. Accommodation will be offered subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. Further details will be communicated via email.
