At the beginning of the spring semester, in order to help the students know better about the world heritage of China, 24 solar terms, and to further promote Chinese culture, the International Students Union (ISU) launched a call for 24 Solar Terms Artwork to all international students in ECNU. The Academic Department of ISU organized a series of events during the spring semester, including lectures and experiential activities, aiming to let all the artist students have a more comprehensive understanding of the 24 solar terms to create better art works.

24 Solar Terms Lectures

On March 31st and April 7th, ISU Academic Department invited a guest speaker from the School of International Chinese Studeis to share the knowledge of the origin, characteristics, connotation and cultural value of the 24 solar terms with the students, so that students can have a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture and also sow the seeds of curiosity to further learn solar terms.

Outdoor Sketching

On April 15th, under the organization of the Academic Department, the student artists who participated in the solar term artwork collection went to Zhujiajiao Ancient Town for outdoor sketching, finding creative inspiration with sketches.

ECNU Scenery Co-creation

On May 4th, ISU and Shanghai Jing'an Junai Public Welfare organized a painting co-creation activity for international students and special youth in ECNU with the campus scenery as the inspiration, creating the experience of  the integration of Chinese students and foreign students in the form of art.

Summer Terms Carnival

On June 7th, at the change from spring to summer, ISU Academic Department prepared a unique summer terms carnival. Under the leading of senior speaker from Ensan Chinese Culture Center, the students learned about the folk knowledge of the summer solar terms, and experienced the traditions through activities such as egg net making, poetry calligraphy, shape topology of flowers, lotus lantern making, fan colouring and tea drinking.

24 Solar Terms Art Exhibition

In fall semester, ISU will bring all the 24 solar terms artworks by the international students and special youths and meet you again at the ECNU International Cultural Festival! Stay Tuned!
