On March 6th, over 400 international students from more than 50 countries gathered at East China Normal University (ECNU) to embark on their Chinese language learning journey for the Spring 2026 semester. New students from the Intensive Chinese Program, Business Chinese Program, and the Global Chinese Program (GCP) officially became "ECNUers" after completing their immersive first lesson.

The opening ceremony kicked off with lively ice-breaking games. Activities like logo guessing and "Rhythm Master" pushed the atmosphere to a peak. Ryuka Sakamoto, a returning student from Japan, shared how her study abroad experience transformed her personality and worldview. "Coming to China broadened my horizons and made me more outgoing," she said. Jarrod, a freshman representative from rural Australia, expressed his excitement about experiencing the pulse of a metropolis, a dream now realized at ECNU.

Ryuka Sakamoto, a returning student from Japan, shared her study abroad experience: "After coming to China, my personality, thoughts, and values have all changed. My horizons have broadened, I've become more outgoing, and even my MBTI type has changed." Jarrod, the new student representative from an Australian ranch, longs to feel the pulse of a bustling metropolis. ECNU has turned this dream into reality for him.

Ms. Sun Qi, Director of the Teaching Office at ECNU's School of Chinese Studies, warmly welcomed the students, encouraging them to "speak bravely, explore actively, and communicate openly" to fully grasp the language and culture. Teachers Wu Xinyi and Wang Ling followed with introductions to the university and course schedules.

The class meetings further energized the event. Students introduced themselves through "Person Seeking" games using three tags, found like-minded friends in "Hobby Blind Box" exchanges, and amazed peers with their "Unique Experience Showcases."

Amidst the vibrant spring, over 400 dreams have set sail along the Liva River. May these new ECNUers soar on the wings of language, harvesting knowledge, friendship, and unforgettable memories. Welcome, new ECNUers! Let’s look forward to this wonderful journey together.
