At the beginning of the new semester, to help new students get to know each other, learn more about Shanghai, Global Education Center (GEC) organized the ice-breaking activity. The students were divided into two groups with their tasks and went to explore the Shanghai Museum East, Century Park, Yu Garden and Chenghuangmiao Area, getting to know each other in teamwork, as well as learning about Chinese history and culture, and experiencing the Shanghai flavor.
上海博物馆&世纪公园
Students on Route 1 needed to complete their tasks at the Shanghai Museum East and Century Park.
GEC staff selected photographs of several valuable pieces of the collection in advance, like Vase with clouds and dragons, Excerpt from Huang Tingjian's letter to Song Zimao, Civil official Sancai...and encouraged students to look for and recognize the items pictured in the photos throughout the museum.
Through this fun treasure-hunting activity, students not only gained knowledge but also deepened their understanding of Chinese history and culture.
Afterwards, the group went to Century Park to experience the daily life of Shanghai citizens.
豫园&城隍庙
For Route 2, students were required to complete tasks in Yu Garden.
Everyone wandered through the ancient pavilions and towers, searching for attractions like the Dragon Wall, Yulinglong, and Dianchun Hall with the checklist task. In the ancient architecture and garden landscape, the international students appreciated the unique charm of Jiangnan Gardens and felt the profound heritage of Chinese traditional culture.
After the activity, the students expressed their desire to continue, made many new friends in a foreign land, and brand-new friendships are beginning to blossom. We hope that the activity will be an unforgettable beginning of your campus life and inspire you to continue to work together and explore more in the days to come.
Wish all the new students success in their studies at ECNU and an unforgettable time in Shanghai.
