Recently, students from the Intensive Chinese Class 4-1 entered Guyiyuan Garden, exploring the aesthetics of traditional Chinese lifestyle and contemplating the spiritual world of Chinese literati within this exemplary model of Jiangnan classical gardens.

1. Capturing the "Finest" of the Garden

With mobile phones in hand, students captured the unique charm of Guyiyuan, seeking out "the most Zen-like corners" and "the most ingenious borrowed scenery," using imagery to document the sophistication of garden art.

2.The Literati Spirit in Couplets

For group tasks, students transformed into "cultural detectives," deciphering the profound meanings behind the garden's couplets and savoring the spiritual pursuits and scholarly ethos embedded within them by the garden's original owners.

3.Decoding the Garden's Spiritual Cipher

Some groups focused on the garden's landscapes, interpreting how the owners expressed their ideals through rockeries, waterside pavilions, and floral arrangements - seeing philosophical contemplation embodied in every plant and tree.

The exploration journey at Guyi Garden not only deepened the students' understanding of the artistic conception and literati spirit in Chinese aesthetics but also allowed them to appreciate the profound depth of traditional culture within the compact yet intricate landscape.

This social practice extends Chinese learning beyond classrooms, immersing students in real-life scenarios to apply language skills and deepen cultural understanding.
