On the morning of December 6, students from Class 1-1 of Intensive Chinese Program visited Hongshoufang to carry out a long-awaited social practice activity. They experienced the exquisite hustle and bustle in the Shikumen Lane together, practiced their Chinese communication skills, and also explored the charm of Shanghai style culture.

Hongshoufang, built in 1933, is located in the north of Shanghai's Putuo District and used to be a famous commercial street. Now it has been transformed into a bazaar-type commercial hub that boasts more than 60 food and drink outlets and has become a commercial area with a sense of urban temperature while preserving the typical brick and wood two-story Shikumen structure.

Shortly after getting out of the subway station, the aroma of breakfast wafted out of Hongshoufang. Seeing the long queue at the scallion pancake stall, students were fully attracted. When they tasted the crispy and flavorful scallion pancakes, they were all in awe, opening their taste buds for the day.

After tasting the authentic Shanghai snacks, they continued to search for global food in groups. Team China came to Xinwang tea restaurant, tasted authentic Cantonese dishes such as Cart noodles, and watched the master make noodles on site.Team Italy found a restaurant called Sando, where they tasted exquisite and delicious pizza, pasta and salad.Team Korea came to 펑요김밥 and ate delicious seafood scallion cake, as if they were on the streets of South Korea.

Walking through the alleys of Hongshoufang, bathed in the historical and urban atmosphere, the students deeply felt the diversity and inclusiveness of the Shanghai style culture. They took photos to record the modernity, historicity and the hustle and bustle of Hongshoufang.

At last, the students went to the street to play an interesting barter game. They tried their best to talk to the shop assistants and passers-by in Chinese and gained valuable cross-cultural experience.

Social practice activity is an extension of Chinese class, taking students into various aspects of life in Chinese society, applying Chinese in real-life context, and gaining language progress and cultural insights.
