A Smooth Opening for the 2014 British Students’ “Study China Programme”

On the morning of August 11th, 2014, the “Study China Programme,” jointly organized by East China Normal University and Manchester University for British university students, successfully began. The Director of International Education, Meixu Huang, the Deputy Director, Gang Wang, the dean of the International College of Chinese, Yongyi Wu, and the director of the Language and Culture Center, Liufang Chen, attended the welcoming ceremony.
 
During the ceremony, Ms. Huang warmly welcomed the international students to Shanghai and expressed her hope that they will have an unforgettable summer at East China Normal University. The representative teacher from Manchester University followed with a speech that affirmed and praised the quality of East China Normal University.
 
The "Study China Programme" has been successfully launched 7 times in ECNU sinece 2008, within nearly 1000 British students took visiting studying via this program. This is the seventh year that ECNU has organized this exchange program, and a total of 98 British students are in attendance. During the next three weeks of study and tour activities, they will learn the Chinese language, attend classes taught in English that examine Chinese economic, political, and social themes, take lessons in martial arts and calligraphy, as well as examine the lives of Shanghai people and their customs to develop a further understanding of Chinese culture.
 
In the hopes of strengthening the communication and exchanges between the students, the university has recruited 15 Chinese university student volunteers to help and participate in the program’s events.
