On the morning of July 15th, the opening ceremony of the "Experience Diverse China" Summer Program was held in the Science Auditorium of the Putuo Campus of East China Normal University. This program has attracted 106 students from 17 countries including the United Kingdom, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Germany, France, and Russia, etc.
Mr. Wang Gang, Deputy Director of the Global Education Center of East China Normal University, Ms. Wang Ling, Deputy Director of the Teaching Office of the Global Education Center, and Ms. Nanna Pedley from the University of Manchester in the UK attended the opening ceremony. All the Chinese teachers of the program and Chinese student volunteers presented at the ceremony as well.
Mr. Wang Gang, on behalf of the Global Education Center, delivered a speech, hoping that students would experience the Chinese culture embedded in Chinese characters through learning them, and under the guidance of language, they would be able to walk through the long corridor of Chinese history, feel the charm of the East, and experience the resonance of ancient and modern times.
Ms. Hao Jiyi from the Admissions Office conducted orientation education for everyone, introduced the program schedule, and reminded everyone of safety and health information. She hoped that students would fully engage in Chinese language courses and cultural activity experiences. Finally, Ms. Wang Ling wished everyone a safe, happy, fulfilling, and pleasant study tour at East China Normal University, and to gain friendship and knowledge!
According to the Chinese proficiency of the students, the program has set up a total of 7 classes to better carry out suitable Chinese teaching tasks for students of different Chinese levels. At the class meeting, everyone first introduced themselves to get to know each other, helping teachers and students to establish initial contact and increase interaction between students from different countries.
Under the organization of Chinese teachers and Chinese student volunteers, exciting ice-breaking games were carried out in units of classes, including balloon passing, glass marbles, dance imitation, team hula hoops, name memorization, and jumping rope on a pressure mat. Through relaxed and interesting team activities, students can quickly get to know each other and establish a sense of trust in a pressure-free environment.
The students from the University of Manchester in the UK went on a cultural exploration tour of Shanghai earlier on July 13th. Walking through the ancient charm of Yuyuan Garden and standing on the Bund by the Huangpu River, the old and the new blend here, and the students all exclaimed that seeing is believing!
