Full-time Ph.D Program
Program: Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)
Period: 4 years
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good physical and mental health. Well performed both academically and behaviorally.
Applicants should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school.
Aspired to take future careers on the teaching or international promotion of Chinese language.
Applicants shoule be between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2025. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45.
Applicants shall be Master degree holders with majors related with TCSOL, linguistics, or Education etc.
Applicants should have a minimum score of 200 in HSK Test (Level 6) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Advanced Level). Applicants who are able to provide notarized document of the employment agreement or related proofs upon completing study in China are preferred.
Exempt from tuition fee.
Provide accommodation on campus: economic double room (public restroom). If you choose to live off-campus and get approval from the university, off-campus living allowance is 1000 RMB/month/person.
Living allowance: 3500 RMB/month.
Within the scholarship duration, registered scholarship students will receive a stipend from their host university each month. Students registering on or before the 15th of the month will receive a full stipend of that month. Those who register after the 15th of the month will receive a half stipend of that month. Graduating students will receive stipend until half month after the graduation date. If registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days in one month due to personal reasons (school holidays excluded), monthly stipend will be stopped during the leaving month(s).
Provide comprehensive medical care insurance for International Students: 800 RMB/person/year.

2. Submit ICLTS online application
Applicant should register and apply online through http://cis.chinese.cn from Feb 20 to May 15. Submit online application and download the application form.
Applicants can log in to the website of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (http://www.chinese.cn) International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship section, search for recommending institutions and receiving universities. After the applicant selects a recommending institution and submits an online application, please contact the recommendation agency for online recommendation.

ECNU School of International Chinese Studies will arrange interviews for the candidates who pass the initial review. The interview will be conducted online and the interview information will be sent via email or phone call. Please make sure that you provide with valid contact information. If an applicant misses the interview without any reason, the application will be regarded as "given up".

Adminssion results will be announced through the ECNU application account. Admitted students must register on time with the original graduation certificate and degree certificate. Registration will be canceled if failing to provide the original certificate.

3) HSK & HSKK Certificate (the Chinese Proficiency Test, Valid for 2 years).

*Chinese teachers who are currently employed can provide a certificate of employment and a recommendation letter issued by the employing institution. Priority will be given under the same conditions.
4) Recommendation letters from recommending Institution (Objective evaluation of the applicant and indicate whether they are a Confucius Institute student or have other identities).
5) Highest diploma & Academic transcripts (original or notarized photocopy):
* Students who have not yet graduated should submit the academic transcript up to the date of application submission and a certificate of expected graduation, stating that the degree will be conferred by August 31, 2025. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
6) Personal Statement. Should include, but is not limited to, personal study or work experience related to the major that you are applying for, and research proposal. It must be in Chinese with more than 3000 words, and be printed and signed.
7) 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.
8) Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (notarized photocopy in English or Chinese, valid within 6 months.) The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
9) Non-criminal Certificate (notarized photocopy in English or Chinese, valid within 6 months.)
10) Application fee: 800 RMB (Please pay through the online registration at https://lxsapply.ecnu.edu.cn/)
1. Application documents sent by email or fax are not accepted.
2. Incomplete or unqualified applications will not be processed.
3. Application documents and application fee will not be returned or refunded regardless of admission status.
4. Applicants will be disqualified from application in case of fraudulent application materials.
5. Scholarship winners who cannot register with the host institutions on time should inform the host institution about the reasons in written form within 15 days before the admission date. For those who do not register as requested without reason, the scholarship will be canceled.
6. Scholarship will be canceled for those who do not pass the admission physical examination, drop out, or take schooling suspension during the study.
