Features of ECNU Pre-University Program

1. ECNU offers Pre-University program for the international students who plan to study undergraduate program in China, aiming to further improve students' Chinese language and basic academic skills, so that they can meet the undergraduate admission requirements from the universities in China and lay a solid linguistic and professional foundation for future undergraduate studies.

2. Mathematics courses are offered to strengthen mathematical knowledge and thinking ability, to lay a good mathematical foundation for the future study of science and engineering, economics and management majors, and to effectively facilitate the connection with undergraduate studies.

3. Some courses are arranged to be taught in the same class with ECNU undergraduates. ECNU offers a number of high quality undergraduate courses to students in the Pre-University  Program, and the students can take relevant courses according to their wishes of applying for undergraduate majors in the future to obtain credits for the prerequisite courses.

4. The diversified course system is conducive to students' in-depth understanding of contemporary Chinese society and culture, and the high-quality teaching and meticulous management can guarantee students' learning effectiveness, enable students to adapt to the study and life in China in advance, and experience the education mode of Chinese universities, and equip them with the language ability, learning ability and cultural cognition required for undergraduate study in China.

Application Requirements

1. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid passport;

2. 16 years old or above;

3. Following students should meet the conditions set by the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC:

(1) Students who emigrate from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and obtain the foreign nationality;

(2) Students, whose parents (either or both) hold Chinese nationality and reside abroad, acquire foreign nationality at the time of birth.

Program Duration

1 year, from September 2024 to June 2025 (two semesters: fall semester and spring semester), can apply for spring semester insertion.

Teaching weeks: 17 weeks/semester

Class hours: 26 hours/week

Chinese Language Requirements

Requirements for admission to the first semester: HSK-4 with a passing score of 180 or above (if the students have related HSK certificate, they can be exempted from the entrance examination; if not, you need to take an entrance examination).

Requirements for admission to the second semester: HSK-4 with a passing score of 220 or above (if the students have related HSK certificate, they can be exempted from the entrance examination; if not, you need to take an entrance examination).

How to Apply

1. Application Deadline: Admission for Fall semester - June 30th; Admission for Spring semester - January 10th;

2. Fill out the application form online: log on to ECNU online application system for international students at https://lxsapply.ecnu.edu.cn/) and upload the following documents:

1) Certificate of high school graduation or pre-graduation (proof of study)

2) Completed high school transcripts

3) Self-recommendation letter (please write 500-800 words in Chinese or English)

4) 1 letter of recommendation, which should come from the lecturer or class teacher of the high school

5) Passport photocopy

6) HSK Certificate valid for two years (if any)

7) Certificates of high school awards (if any)

8) Guarantee letter from the guardian (required for applicants under 18 years old)

9) 800 RMB Application Fee

Note

1. For applicants who do not have an HSK certificate, the school will notify them separately about the admission assessment related matters;

2. If all the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be submitted;

3. The application materials and fees will not be refunded once submitted.

Fees

Application fee: 800 RMB

Tuition fee: 18000 RMB/semester; 36000 RMB/year

Insurance Fee: 400 RMB/semester; 800 RMB/year

Others

1. Admission Notice and Visa Application: The school will provide visa documents and admission notices for students who have passed the review and been admitted.

2. Accommodation: After being admitted, the school will send a dormitory reservation notice, which can be booked online at that time.

3. Scholarship: After the completion of preparatory studies, outstanding students can apply for the Outstanding Freshman Scholarship at China Normal University, the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship, or the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship when applying for our undergraduate program.
