On April 12th, students of Class 2-3 from Intensive Chinese Program met on South Shaanxi Road and started a journey to explore Shanghai's alleys. The students walked through the alleys, which not only practiced their Chinese communication skills, but also deeply experienced the unique architectural culture of Shanghai.

Lilong is a unique form of residential area in Shanghai, which is characterized by traditional Chinese architectural features and influenced by western architectural styles. It is not only the most common living space for ordinary Shanghainese, but also an important part of Shanghai's architectural culture. Students walked into these alleys in groups with different tasks to deeply experience the charm of Shanghai's architecture and culture.

The Chinese teacher gave the students interesting practical tasks: taking photos of the buildings along the way and drawing posters for display by the group; acting as a "little tour guide" to introduce the historical changes of specific alleys; interviewing the residents of the alleys to learn about the composition of the residents and the relationship between the neighbors; comparing the old and the new Shikumen alleys, and thinking about the preservation of the Shikumen in relation to what they have learned in class. Students were actively engaged in the task.

After the activity, the students presented their practical results and insights in various forms such as posters, videos and oral reports.

Social practice activity is an extension of Chinese class, taking students into various aspects of life in Chinese society, applying Chinese in real-life context, and gaining language progress and cultural insights.
