In early May, students from Class 2-2B of Intensive Chinese Program met on West Nanjing Road and went to the Shanghai History Museum together to explore the memories of this city!
The Shanghai History Museum is located in the historical and cultural area of People's Square. The Eastern Building, originally the site of the Old Shanghai Race Club, has housed various institutions over the years including the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Library, and Shanghai Art Museum, making it a cultural landmark in Shanghai. The teacher introduced the building of typical English classical style, and then everyone started a rich and interesting language practice task in small groups.
Entering the museum, the students immersed themselves in the appreciation of valuable exhibits, exploring the local historical artifacts, cultural customs, humanistic environment, and urban development of Shanghai from ancient times to modern days. Meanwhile, they needed to follow the picture clues to find a teacher-assigned collection in the museum and learn their names, functions, etc. They also pondered the origins of the names "Shen", "Hu" and "Shanghai," and why Shanghai has become the economic center of China.
At the end of the activity, the students presented their practical results and insights in groups.
Social practice activity is an extension of Chinese class, taking students into various aspects of life in Chinese society, applying Chinese in real-life context, and gaining language progress and cultural insights.
