At the beginning of May, students of Intensive Chinese Program participating in the Chinese culture activities embarked on a journey to learn and practice traditional culture.
Students assembled on the Restaurant to explore the traditional customs of the Dragon Boat Festival and to learn the art of making rice dumpling. With the guidance of Ms. Pei Azhen, they engaged in an engaging quiz on the festival's cultural aspects and then delved into the diverse flavors of rice dumpling and other associated traditions. Following a master's demonstration, students enthusiastically took up bamboo leaves and meticulously followed the steps to craft their
Own work. After a period of anticipation, the freshly steamed rice dumplings were ready to be enjoyed, offering a taste of the festival's rich culinary delights. The afternoon was filled with “learning”, “crafting”, and “savoring”, making students to personally experience the festival's allure and the pleasure of hands-on creation.
Fan painting, an art form on traditional Chinese fans, boasts a long history and is imbued with profound emotional resonance and auspicious symbolism. In the fan painting class, teacher Wang Kai led students through the process of fan painting, beginning with the selection of painting tools, the variety of inks, the methods of drawing, and the nuances of brushwork. The students attentively absorbed the lessons, diligently replicated the techniques, and through careful execution, each student produced a beautiful fan, immersing themselves in the elegance of Chinese painting and the artistry of brush handling. For the students, this was not merely an educational experience in traditional Chinese painting but also a delightful journey into artistic expression.
The cultural experience activities were met with great enthusiasm by the students, who immersed themselves in the festive spirit of the Dragon Boat Festival, admired the aesthetic of Chinese painting, reveled in the joy of crafting by hand, and gained a more profound appreciation for traditional Chinese culture.
