The Study China Programme, jointly organized by East China Normal University and The University of Manchester for British university students, was successfully launched on the morning of April 3rd, 2017. Prof. Bing Mei, vice president of ECNU, Mr. Johannes Lotze, the Program Supervisor from The University of Manchester, Ms. Meixu Huang, the Director of the Global Education Center, and the Deputy Director, Mr. Gang Wang attended the opening ceremony.
During the ceremony, Prof. Bing Mei gave the welcoming words to the international students and made a brief introduction of the history of East China Normal University. She also expressed her hope that all students will have an unforgettable oriental holiday at ECNU. The Programme Supervisor from The University of Manchester, Mr. Johannes Lotze delivered a speech that presented his thanks to ECNU for the host and organization.
The Study China Programme has been successfully launched in ECNU since 2008, with over 1200 International students taking visiting study via this programme. This is the ninth year that ECNU has organized this exchange programme, and a total of 87 students are in attendance this time. During the next three weeks of study and tour activities, apart from learning the Chinese language, taking lessons in Chinese martial and calligraphy, they will also visit Shanghai Museum, the Bund, and Zhenjiang (a city in Jiangsu province, sitting on the southern bank of the Yangtz River), etc.
In the hopes of strengthening the communication and exchanges between the students from two nations, the university has recruited over 20 Chinese university student volunteers to participate and help in the programme. They will accompany the International students with their study and trip.
At the time of Qing Ming Festival, Shanghai enjoys beautiful scenery of peach blossoms and green willows, which attracts numerous tourists. The students are eager to go for an outing and enjoy the greenery of the springtime. They will surely be impressed during this programme.
