The launching ceremony of Chinese & Canadian Youth Virtual Language & Cultural Exchange initiated jointly by Global Education Center of East China Normal University and Canada World Youth (CWY) was successfully held recently. At the invitation of CWY and ECNU, Cong Peiwu, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, attended and delivered a speech at the launching ceremony.
Global Education Center of ECNU started cooperation with CWY since 2017 for hosting China-Canada Young Leaders Program. Participants studied in the Global China Program at ECNU for 3 months and then worked as teaching assistant in the English department of Southwest University in Chongqing for 1 month as community services. They can not only get immersion experience of the campus life in a Chinese university and have chance to meet other international students from all over the world, but also take a closer look into local life and Chinese society via living with a Chinese host family in Chongqing. The rich program contents provide participants multi ways to explore China. The program was held successfully for 3 years continuously but had to be suspended due to COVID19. However, both ECNU and CWY feel the collaboration and exchange should not be suspended. With joint efforts and supports from many sources, the new Chinese & Canadian Youth Virtual Language and Cultural Exchange is launched to build a bridge between the youth of two countries.
CONG PEIWU, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, ROB NORRIS, Chair CWY Board, SUSAN HANDRIGAN, CEO of CWY, WANG SUBIN, Deputy Director of International Exchange Division of ECNU, JIN LIJUN, Deputy Director of Global Education Center of ECNU, FU CHAOBO, Acting Deputy Director of International Office of Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University (FAFU), etc. are invited to attend the launching ceremony. Ambassador CONG suggests young people to understand China through different perspectives including historical perspective, the perspective of interaction between China and the World, the perspective of starting a new journey in China. He mentioned that “Canada World Youth, East China Normal University and other universities attach great importance to the cultivation of young talents and have a good foundation for cooperation. We believe that the China-Canada Youth Exchange and Learning Platform launched today will become a new brand for people-to-people exchanges between China and Canada, boosting language learning and increasing understanding and friendship. We hope that the young students in the two countries will carry forward the spirits of ‘all under heaven being of one family’ and ‘the world belonging to the people’, shoulder the responsibilities and get devoted to the great causes of the times, and make due contributions to the development of the China-Canada friendship and the world peace.”
