Recently, students from the Intensive Chinese Program participated in a series of enriching cultural activities at four unique museums in Shanghai. This experience provided international students with a tangible connection to the delicate beauty of Chinese culture and a deeper appreciation of the profound wisdom of the East.
Class 1-1A visited the Shanghai Printing Script Exhibition Center to explore the origins and evolution of Chinese printing techniques. They not only gained an in-depth understanding of basic Chinese characters and felt the unique charm of their evolution and combinations but also systematically learned about the beauty of four common printing fonts: Song, Heiti, Kaiti, and Imitation Song.
Class 1-3 undertook various tasks to explore the Chinese Arts Palace: some searched for colorful artworks, some charted routes to their favorite exhibits, and some delved into the hidden connotations of auspicious numbers in the artworks.
Class 2-1B visited the China Securities Museum, where students experienced the typical architectural style of Shanghai, a blend of Chinese and Western influences, and created posters of the most impressive objects in the exhibition hall.
Class 2-2B entered the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum to learn more about the rich historical background and distinctive characteristics of the exhibits. Lifelike jade carvings and exquisite embroidery works attracted the students' attention with their unique artistic charm.
After the activities, students transformed what they saw, heard and thought into a series of wonderful achievements through their own unique perspectives and creative approaches, vividly recording and expressing their understanding and perception of Chinese culture.
Social practice activity is an extension of Chinese class, taking students into various aspects of life in Chinese society, applying Chinese in real-life context, and gaining language progress and cultural insights.
