1. ECNU International Student Application Form
Please complete the online application at http://lxsapply.ecnu.edu.cn and pay the application fee of RMB 800.
2. Graduation and Degree Certificates
Master's program applicants should submit a Bachelor's degree certificate. Doctoral program applicants should submit both Master's and Bachelor's degree certificates.
① Scanned copies of the original diplomas are required. If the documents are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English is required.
② Students who have not yet graduated should submit a certificate of expected graduation, stating that the degree will be conferred by August 31, 2025. The original graduation certificate and diploma must be presented at registration.
3. Official Academic Transcripts
Master's program applicants must submit a complete academic transcript from their undergraduate studies. Doctoral program applicants must submit complete academic transcripts from both graduate and undergraduate studies.
① Scanned copies of the original transcripts are required. If documents are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English is required.
② Students who have not yet graduated should provide the academic transcript up to the date of application submission. The complete final transcript must be submitted before registration.
4. Language Proficiency Certificate
① For Chinese-taught programs:
a) HSK certificate (valid within 2 years):
Liberal arts and economics majors: HSK5 (score of 210 or above) or HSK6 (score of 180 or above).
Art, physical education and science majors (excluding economics): HSK5 (score of 180 or above).
b) Proof of Completion of a Chinese-taught Degree Program
Applicants who have completed undergraduate or master's studies in Chinese must submit a language certificate on university letterhead, issued by the university's registrar or graduate office. Upon approval, this can replace the HSK certificate requirement.
② For English-taught programs: Native English speakers are exempted from this requirement.
a) English Proficiency Test Certificate
Applicants must submit an effective English proficiency test certificate, or other equivalent certificates reviewed and approved by ECNU.
b) Proof of Completion of a English-taught Degree Program
Applicants who have completed undergraduate or master's studies in English must submit a language certificate on university letterhead, issued by the university's registrar or graduate office. Upon approval, this can replace the English Proficiency Test Certificate requirement.
5. Two Recommendation Letters

Must be written in Chinese or English by scholars with the title of associate professor or higher, or by senior professionals in a related field. The recommendation letter should be issued after September 1, 2024.
The recommendation letter MUST include the recommender's job title, place of work, contact number, email address, and signature.
6. The Personal Statement
Length: Minimum of 1,000 words for Master's program applicants and 1,500 words for Doctoral program applicants.
Language: it should be written in Chinese for Chinese-taught programs applicants, and in English for English-taught program applicants.
Content: Should include, but is not limited to, personal study or work experience, academic research achievements, research plan, and personal goals after graduation. Academic and research abilities can be highlighted.
7. Photocopy of Passport (including the personal information page and any Chinese visa pages if applicable)
8. Research Achievements
Provide a catalog and abstract of published papers, or other original research achievements (if applicable) to demonstrate academic capability.
Doctoral program applicants should submit an abstract of the Master's thesis rather than the full text.

* Doctoral program applicants are encouraged to contact with the prospective academic supervisor in advance.
Supplemental Documents:
1. Applicants for art-related majors should submit a portfolio.
2. Applicants for the Master's Program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages should submit an essay related to the field (approximately 1,000 words).
3. Applicants for ICLTS (International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship) must submit an HSK certificate, which cannot be substituted with a Proof of Completion of a Chinese-taught Degree Program.
Master's program: HSK 5 score of 210 or above, HSKK Intermediate score of 60 or above.
Doctoral program: HSK 6 score of 200 or above, HSKK Advanced score of 60 or above.
4. Non-Criminal Certificate
Submit a valid Non-Criminal Record Certificate (or Police Clearance Certificate), issued within 6 months before the application by the local public security authority (such as a police station). Applicants in China can obtain the Non-Criminal Record Certificate from the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau.
If the certificate is not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English is required.
5. Scholarship applicants MUST provide a valid health certificate (within 6 months)

The physical examination report must cover all items listed on the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and include a detailed blood test report. Forms will be considered invalid if missing a sealed photograph of the applicant, the hospital's official stamp, or the physician's signature.
